Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) set out the conditions for using the EMMU Score sheet music management application and its related services (the “Service”) provided by EMMU Inc. (“we”, “us” or the “Company”). Please read and agree to these Terms before using the Service. On first launch, the Service displays these Terms and the Privacy Policy and requires an acceptance action before use begins. These Terms also apply when you use the Service without registering an account.
Article 1 — Definitions
- “User” means any individual or legal entity using the Service. “Registered User” means a User who has registered a Score account through the prescribed procedure.
- “Score Data” means imported source files, including PDFs, images and supported MusicXML files (a sheet music file format recording notes, measures and other notation), display images, thumbnails (small images used in lists), titles, composer names, tags, notes, display and correction settings, and other information related to managing scores.
- “Local Storage” means storage in the application area or similar storage on your device. It does not mean cloud storage (storage on an internet server) or backup by the Company.
- “Public ID” means the identifying string assigned to a Registered User and displayed in the application's settings.
- “Specific Rules” means feature-specific conditions, supported formats, usage limits and other rules displayed within the Service or on this page. “Minor” means a person who has not reached adulthood under the applicable law of their place of residence. “Parent or Guardian” means a parent with parental authority, a minor's guardian or another person legally authorised to consent to the use or processing of information concerned.
- “Source Materials” means materials or data from which scores used in or imported into the Service originate. They include printed and other physical scores, purchased or lawfully obtained digital scores, PDFs, images, supported score files, user-created scores and equivalent materials or data. The term is not limited to an author's unique original manuscript.
- Score data also includes scores created or edited in the Service, notes, lyrics, chord names, parts, playback and display settings, retained information from imported files, and rights information. Recording data means recorded audio, titles, notes, recording dates and times, durations, and waveform display data.
Article 2 — Scope
- These Terms govern the relationship between you and the Company concerning use of the Service. Specific Rules form part of these Terms to the extent they are appropriately displayed and incorporated into the agreement under these Terms and applicable law. Specific Rules expressly given priority prevail for the matters concerned. This does not permit detrimental changes prohibited by law.
- The Child Safety Policy on this page and additional conditions appropriately displayed for the relevant region or feature constitute Specific Rules to the extent lawfully incorporated into the agreement. Express additional conditions prevail for their region and subject matter where they differ from these Terms. They do not restrict rights guaranteed by law.
- EMMU Score and EMMU accounts, service status and account deletion procedures are managed separately. Using the same email address or other details does not automatically link accounts or import scores stored in EMMU.
Article 3 — Information, Statistics and Feedback
- We handle your information in accordance with the Privacy Policy on this page.
- Within the purposes stated in that Policy, we may aggregate lawfully obtained information into statistics that cannot identify or be linked to individuals. We may use, publish or provide these statistics to third parties, free of charge or for payment, without time or geographic limits, to improve the Service, manage quality, consider new features, analyse usage trends and report results. We do not provide individually linked usage histories or source score files as if they were such statistics.
- We may use voluntarily submitted opinions, requests and bug reports without payment as necessary to improve the Service. Personal information, information provided in confidence and information involving third-party rights remain subject to law, the Privacy Policy and individual agreements. Your existing rights do not transfer to us. Rights arising in improvements independently created by us belong to us.
Article 4 — Conditions of Use, Minors and Registration
- Depending on applicable law, app store conditions and the features provided, eligibility may depend on region, age, registrant status and required consent or verification. We display these conditions before use of the Service or the relevant feature. Please follow them.
- Minors must ask a Parent or Guardian to review these Terms and the Privacy Policy and obtain their consent before using the Service. If a Minor cannot understand the Terms and complete the procedures, the Parent or Guardian must review them, agree to the Minor's use, and complete initial setup and necessary registration and management. Separate consent or verification for personal information must follow the Privacy Policy and the relevant notice.
- Applicants must supply accurate information, complete authentication and accept the Terms in accordance with the displayed registration conditions. Registration takes effect when we approve it. A Parent or Guardian managing a Minor's use must follow Article 5. Using a guardian's account does not remove legal requirements concerning the Minor's information.
- Where needed for applicable law or the features provided, we may verify country or region of residence, state or similar subdivision where necessary, age or age range, and guardian consent. We may defer or restrict the relevant registration, collection or transmission of information, or feature until required verification is complete. Conditions legally applicable to the entire Service apply accordingly.
- We may refuse registration or impose necessary verification restrictions where there are reasonable grounds, including materially false information, past serious violations, involvement with organised criminal groups, or missing required consent. If required guardian consent is missing, we will consider the Minor's interests and applicable law when verifying consent, stopping the relevant processing and deleting unnecessary information.
- A declaration or checkbox alone may not satisfy legally required consent or verification. Please follow any additional procedure we explain. These Terms do not restrict Minors' statutory cancellation or other rights.
- These Terms and applicable conditions also apply without registration. Anyone accepting on behalf of an organisation must have authority to do so. Age and similar conditions also apply to the individuals actually using the Service.
- Account registration is subject to a minimum age set for each country or region of residence. The applicable age condition is displayed on the screen before registration. Persons below the minimum age cannot register an account or purchase paid features that require an account, but may continue to use the Service on their device without registering an account. However, in regions where laws or other rules also impose age conditions on ordinary use of the app, those conditions apply.
- Where the consent of a Parent or Guardian is confirmed on screen before registration or purchase, the Parent or Guardian must personally read these Terms and the Privacy Policy and perform the confirmation action. A Minor must not perform the confirmation action on behalf of a Parent or Guardian or make any untrue declaration about their age or the consent of a Parent or Guardian.
Article 5 — Accounts and Public IDs
- Registered Users must properly manage passwords, verification codes, external login credentials and devices, and must not transfer, lend or share their accounts. Exceptions are a Parent or Guardian allowing a Minor to view scores or use similar functions on a device they manage under the conditions we explain, and use lawfully permitted by an app store. Credentials must not be disclosed to third parties, and the Parent or Guardian must control important actions such as registration changes and account deletion. You are responsible for inadequate management or misuse attributable to your intent or negligence. An action having occurred through your account does not make you responsible for everything, including unauthorised use caused by us.
- If you choose Google, Apple or another external login, that provider's conditions also apply. Authentication may become unavailable because of changes, suspension or the status of the external account.
- Update changed registration details through the prescribed procedure. On discovering misuse, promptly take necessary measures such as changing your password and checking logged-in devices, and contact us.
- You may change your Public ID in settings, but cannot use an ID already used by another Registered User or reserved by us. IDs must not impersonate others, infringe rights, mislead, harass or violate public order or accepted standards of decency. On reasonable grounds, we may request a change, change the ID or suspend its use as necessary.
- A Public ID identifies a user; it is not a password or verification code. A Public ID alone cannot be used to log in or operate an account.
Article 6 — Fees and Usage Conditions
- Basic functions are free unless a separate fee is displayed. If you use the Service free of charge, ads may be displayed in the Service. For paid functions we display the price, offering, payment method and other conditions in advance.
- You bear communication charges and the cost of devices, connectivity and other resources needed to use the Service.
- We may set and display conditions or limits based on registration, supported devices, file formats, size, pages, score count, communication volume and download count or frequency. Score count and storage limits are in Schedule 1. References to these limits mean the values for your usage status in that Schedule. We may enforce them technically. Changes to Schedule 1 require the notices and procedures in Article 24.
- Prices, paid features and purchase conditions are displayed before purchase. For subscriptions, we also display the term, whether renewal is automatic and cancellation conditions. Cancellation, refunds and unused periods for app store purchases are governed by applicable law and that store's rules. Follow the store's procedures to request a refund.
- Paid features are provided as subscriptions (with automatic renewal) through App Store or Google Play. The subscription term and price are displayed on the purchase screen. Until cancelled, the subscription renews automatically for each term and the app store charges the fee. You may cancel at any time through the app store's subscription management; if you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, the next charge will not be made.
- When a Minor purchases paid features, a Parent or Guardian reviews the purchase conditions and confirms consent on screen before the purchase. We recommend using the app stores' family features (Apple's “Ask to Buy” and Google Play's purchase approvals). Requests to cancel, or for a refund of, a purchase made without the consent of a Parent or Guardian must be made through the relevant app store's refund procedure (“Report a Problem” for App Store, or a refund request for Google Play). This paragraph does not restrict Minors' statutory cancellation or other rights.
- Refund and rescission procedures for purchases made on App Store follow Apple's rules.
- Ads displayed in the Service are delivered by an ad delivery provider entrusted by us (Google LLC's ad delivery service “AdMob”). The relevant advertiser or provider is responsible for the content of ads and for the goods and services at the destinations reached from ads; except for our own obligations concerning the display of ads, we are not a party to those transactions. Information on the handling of ads is set out in the Privacy Policy.
- While a Personal Cloud Standard or Premium plan is active, ads are not displayed. In regions where we offer a paid plan without ads, we display its price and conditions before purchase.
- Creating and editing scores requires login. Supported formats, file protection and usage conditions set by the creator may restrict editing, printing, PDF output or original-file export. New scores initially do not permit third-party editing, redistribution or commercial use. Set permissions only to the extent you are entitled to grant them.
Article 7 — Use of Scores and Your Responsibilities
- The Service assists with importing, organising and viewing scores you may lawfully use. It does not grant new rights in scores you import. Scores separately provided by us are subject to Article 8 and their displayed conditions. The Service does not guarantee permanent preservation or reacquisition of Source Materials, or uninterrupted viewing in every environment.
- You must verify the necessary rights, permissions, consents or other lawful basis for scores you import, copy, correct, store, export or share.
- Buying or lawfully obtaining a score does not automatically confer all rights needed for copying, modifying, digitising, distributing or sharing it.
- Importing, storing or registering Source Materials does not transfer ownership, copyright or other rights or expand your licence. Records and displays within the Service do not prove purchase, possession or lawful authority and do not replace purchase records, licences or other necessary evidence.
- Do not discard or delete Source Materials because you have imported them. Keep them separately from the Service to the extent you are entitled to retain them. Keep digital Source Materials in storage independent of the Service, in a form you may lawfully view without logging in to the Service or restoring data from our servers. Check that they can be read when needed. Retain purchase and licence records where necessary.
- Observe return, deletion and other conditions for borrowed, rented or time-limited materials. These Terms do not authorise unauthorised retention, refusal to return materials or use after a licence ends.
- Device failure or loss, app removal, bugs, external service outages, suspension or termination under these Terms and other circumstances may cause loss, corruption or inability to view scores. We do not provide a service to reissue Source Materials, reacquire them from sellers or reissue their licences. Any legal liability we have is governed by Article 19.
- Before performances, recitals, lessons, examinations, auditions, recording or other uses where interruption could cause difficulty, check all pages, titles, lyrics, symbols, page order, correction and cropping results, page turning and, where necessary, offline viewing on the intended device and in the intended environment. Check again after changing or updating the app, operating system or accessories.
- Check power, charge, free storage, connectivity and accessories. Prepare lawfully usable alternative scores or another way of viewing them if the Service is unavailable. Respect copyright and licence conditions when preparing and using alternatives.
- The Service does not guarantee uninterrupted use at events, that events will take place, continue or succeed, performance outcomes or revenue. Article 19 governs our liability.
- Keeping Source Materials separately, checking operation in advance and preparing alternatives are precautions against data loss and interruption. A failure to take these precautions does not by itself release us from all liability. Our responsibility and any allocation of loss are determined under Article 19 and applicable law.
- The Service also supports score creation, editing, playback and export, and practice using a metronome (a tool that marks a regular beat) and recording. These functions do not grant new rights or permissions.
Article 8 — Respect for Copyright and Prohibition of Infringement
- Importing, copying, digitising, modifying, distributing, transmitting or sharing scores in breach of copyright or other rights is prohibited. Separate rights may exist in music, lyrics, original arrangements, commentary and illustrations. Verify permission, a statutory exception or another lawful basis for each relevant right and use.
- Purchase, ownership, borrowing, free availability or non-commercial use alone does not make copying or sharing unrestricted. Rights in arrangements, lyrics, commentary and other elements may remain even after copyright in the original composition expires.
- Exceptions such as private copying have conditions and limits. Use among organisations, classes, workplaces or performers, or sharing online, is not automatically private use. Without permission or another lawful basis, you must not:
- Scan or photograph library, rental or borrowed scores, or scores distributed at a class, organisation or workplace.
- Copy and distribute one score for multiple performers.
- Provide, share, transmit, lend or publicly post imported scores, exported originals or backups.
- Copy, modify, digitise, print or store contrary to an applicable lawful licence.
- Improperly remove or change copyright notices to mislead about ownership or origin, or facilitate infringement.
- Knowingly acquiring or importing unlawfully distributed scores, and bypassing passwords or copying restrictions without authority, are prohibited. Use password-protected files only if you have legitimate viewing authority and the password.
- We do not grant new licences for user-imported scores, clear rights on your behalf or guarantee the legality of each use. Successful import or export is not our approval of legality. The Service does not expand the scope of use permitted by law.
- You represent and warrant that your use does not infringe others' rights. We may investigate suspected infringement and take necessary measures under Articles 11 and 17.
- Obtaining or registering a score does not provide every licence required for public performance, distribution, recording, reproduction, arrangement or other use. Clear the rights needed for your use and observe licence limits on duration, users, territory, reproduction and output. This does not prevent uses allowed by law without permission.
- When we provide scores, we make necessary checks of their sources, rights and contents and display usage conditions. Follow the permitted uses, territories, attribution requirements and other conditions for each score. We do not grant new rights in portions we do not own or unjustifiably restrict rights permitted by law or the applicable licence.
- If we discover errors or rights issues in scores we provide, we will take appropriate measures such as correcting information, replacing or withdrawing the scores, and give notice where reasonably possible if use is materially affected. Article 19 governs any damages liability.
- For entering notes or lyrics, arranging, recording, printing, exporting, distributing, publishing or sharing, verify the necessary rights, permissions, consents or other lawful basis, including applicable legal exceptions. Entering, performing or recording material yourself does not remove others' rights. When recording or using others' performances, conversations, lessons or commercial recordings, check copyright, performers' and recording producers' rights, privacy, venue rules and contractual conditions, and obtain necessary consents.
- Enter creator names, rights notices, collecting societies, license numbers and usage conditions accurately and within your authority. Creator-account records manage operations; they do not certify legal ownership. Entering a society or license number does not mean that we apply for or obtain permission or verify the number, authority or scope. Missing rights notices or available controls do not prove lawful use. Do not license others' works without authority, falsely declare them free of rights, or misuse retained-information deletion to remove or alter rights notices. Licenses such as Creative Commons are governed by their official terms; changing an app setting alone does not revoke a valid license already granted.
Article 9 — Prohibited Conduct
You must not engage in, assist or encourage:
- Violations of law, public order, accepted standards of decency or these Terms; committing, soliciting or facilitating crime.
- Infringement of our or others' copyright, neighbouring rights, publishing rights, trademarks, image rights, privacy or other rights or legitimate interests.
- Using the Service for purposes other than importing, organizing, viewing, creating, editing, playing or exporting scores, practice, recording, or related uses, including as a photo album unrelated to score use or general file storage, unless we separately authorize such use.
- Importing, copying, modifying, exporting, publishing, transmitting or sharing scores or files without necessary authority.
- Improperly bypassing passwords, copying restrictions, other technical protections or usage limits.
- Unauthorised copying, modification, redistribution or analysis of the program for improper use. The restriction on decompilation and similar examination does not cover acts permitted by applicable law or a component's licence.
- Unauthorised resale, lending or sublicensing of the Service or accounts. This does not prohibit use permitted by us or the store, or lawful performance or teaching using scores in which you hold the necessary rights.
- Unauthorised access, impersonation, misuse of credentials, transmission of viruses, circumvention of authentication or limits, unauthorised bulk collection or access, or other disruption.
- Using multiple accounts, devices or false information to evade capacity, count, frequency or other limits.
- Threats, abuse, insults, discrimination, sexual harassment, unauthorised disclosure of personal information or dissemination of falsehoods against users, the Company or its contractors.
- Disrupting work through excessive demands, prolonged detention of staff, persistent repetitive contact or unjustified demands for money or special treatment.
- Fraud, threats, harassment, discrimination or infringement of others' rights or legitimate interests.
- Placing false information, unlawful expressions or others' personal information in registration details or Public IDs without authority. Information in inquiries or reports must be limited to what is necessary for a lawful purpose.
- Sexual exploitation or abuse of Minors, sexual solicitation, grooming (building trust to manipulate a Minor for sexual purposes), improper acquisition of personal information or other threats to Minors' safety.
- Providing benefits to, or otherwise becoming involved with, the organised criminal groups defined in Article 10.
- Otherwise unjustifiably interfering with safe or normal operation of the Service.
This Article does not prohibit legitimate complaints, reasonable questions, good-faith reports, lawful criticism, consultation with authorities, court proceedings or other lawful exercise of rights. An unsubstantiated report alone does not make a good-faith reporter a violator.
Article 10 — Exclusion of Organised Criminal Groups
- You represent and warrant that you are not, and will not become, an organised crime group, a member of such a group, a person who left such membership less than five years ago, an associate member, a related business, a corporate extortionist, a group using social or political movements as a front for extortion, a specialised organised crime group or an equivalent person or entity (“Organised Criminal Groups”), and that you will not allow them to use your name.
- You must not, directly or through others, make violent or unjustified demands beyond legal responsibility, use threatening language or violence, or harm our reputation or obstruct our work through deception or force.
- For a breach of the preceding provisions, we may suspend use or cancel registration without advance notice. Article 17 governs the scope and effects on data; Article 19 governs our liability.
Article 11 — Infringement Claims and Reports
- A rights holder or other third party who believes use of the Service infringes their rights should contact the Article 28 contact point, identifying the right, subject matter, grounds and contact details.
- Users who discover a violation of these Terms or a threat to Minors' safety should use the same contact point.
- We review reports as necessary and determine reasonably necessary action based on identification of the subject, rights and risks. We may request additional information or explanations from the parties.
- We do not guarantee every reporter their requested action, investigation outcome or individual response. We may withhold information that could harm others' rights, safety, investigations or prevention of misuse. This does not relieve us of legally required investigation, action or notice. Personal information requests are handled under the Privacy Policy.
Article 12 — Ownership and Licences
- Rights in your Score Data remain with you or the existing rights holders. Import or storage does not transfer them to us.
- If you use a feature to transmit or store data on our servers under conditions explained beforehand, you grant us and necessary contractors a royalty-free permission to process it only as needed to provide that feature, store and display it, maintain the service, resolve faults and prevent misuse. The permission is limited in scope and duration to those purposes. It does not permit public posting, sale, advertising use or training generative AI on your scores.
- Data processed only on your device and not transmitted to our servers is outside that permission.
- The application, design, trademarks, displays, music symbol fonts and other materials we provide belong to us or their legitimate rights holders. You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use them as needed to use the Service under these Terms, without any broader transfer or licence. Separate licences for open-source software (software available for use and modification under published terms), fonts or other components govern those components.
- Rights in created or edited scores and recordings remain with the user or existing right holders and do not transfer to us. The processing permission above does not extend to recordings, editing drafts or history not sent to us. It does not authorize public release, sale, advertising use or generative-AI training using scores or recordings.
Article 13 — Storage and Backups
- Storage location and method depend on features and settings and may be local or in our cloud. Local scores depend on the device's storage. Before cloud storage, backup or synchronisation is used, we display the data covered, conditions, limits and prices. Registration or login alone does not mean every score has been stored, backed up or synchronised.
- Scores or settings may become unavailable due to app removal, device failure, loss, reset or replacement, insufficient storage or other circumstances.
- Exported source files receive no additional Service-specific encryption or access restriction; any original PDF protection remains as determined by that file. Account backup files are encrypted by the Service on export. Depending on the method, exports may include originals, titles, composer names, tags, original filenames, management identifiers and performance lists. Whether encrypted or not, check contents and destination and protect them against access by others.
- Creating and restoring an account backup requires login to an available EMMU Score account and communication with our servers. Restoration is restricted to the account that created it. Keep Source Materials lawfully and separately whether or not you use backups. We do not guarantee permanent storage, completeness or restorability. Account deletion, suspension or other measures under these Terms may restrict or prevent restoration.
- Trash, retention of deleted data and restoration follow the conditions displayed in the Service. Trash and backup functions do not guarantee permanent storage or complete restoration.
- Besides Source Materials, regularly keep separate copies of annotations, display settings, performance lists and other management information where needed, after checking what the available export functions preserve. A particular export method does not necessarily save all management information with the score itself.
- Synchronisation is different from an independent backup: changes and deletions may propagate to other devices. Continue keeping Source Materials separately.
- Cloud synchronisation, account backups and independent retention of Source Materials have different conditions and purposes. In particular, the account backup in paragraph 4 does not replace retention of Source Materials independently of the Service. These storage and restoration explanations do not negate our obligation to comply with displayed storage conditions, our legal duties of proper management, or rights protected by Article 19(4) and the regional supplement.
- Saving with Edit this score updates the score in the app's library. Edit a copy to keep the previous score; the copy's appearance may still change after editing. Recovery drafts are saved automatically on the device; saving or leaving the editor applies changes to the library. Uncommitted edits may be recovered next time. Editing history stores editor data at the intervals and counts shown, not every version of the original file or every operation for restoration to any point. Restoration retains the current title, creator attribution and rights and usage conditions. Drafts and history are excluded from cloud sync and account backups and do not replace separate originals against failure or deletion.
- Recordings are stored on the device and excluded from cloud sync and account backups. They are also configured to be excluded from standard OS backups; do not rely on restoration after reinstallation or device replacement. They are managed separately from accounts and scores and remain after logout, account deletion or score deletion. Delete unwanted recordings from the recording list; there is no trash-based recovery. Capacity, duration limits or device conditions may interrupt or prevent recording. Check the result and lawfully export and separately store needed audio.
Article 14 — Formats, Display Processing and Export
- Import or display of PDFs, images, MusicXML and other files may fail or omit information depending on format support, device performance and file condition. Unsupported MusicXML information may be omitted or reconstructed.
- Display image and thumbnail generation, rotation, deskewing, margin adjustment and other processing may make the result differ from the source. Check results before use.
- Use PDFs requiring a viewing password only with legitimate viewing authority and the password. Remembered passwords are device-specific and are not guaranteed to work on other devices.
- Cloud storage, synchronisation between your devices and other functions are available only as actually provided and under displayed conditions. Registration does not automatically enable unprovided features.
- Check necessary rights before sending data to external apps or services. Their terms and privacy policies govern after transfer, and we may be unable to control or delete the transferred data.
- Articles 21 and 24 govern changes to formats, processing, display quality and limits.
- The editor supports multiple parts, lyrics and chord names, and saves information from imports that it cannot directly edit to the extent it can read and retain it. Retention does not guarantee identical display or playback; layout, symbols and page breaks may change. Retained information can be deleted through the indicated controls. Changing or deleting notes, measures or parts can also affect attached lyrics and symbols. Format, structure, data volume and processing limits may prevent reading, retaining, editing or saving information. Keep a separate original before editing and check the saved result.
- WAV and M4A recording exports may include titles, notes and recording dates and times as well as audio. MusicXML exports may include hidden lyrics and retained information, titles, creator and rights notices, notes and editor settings. Hiding information does not delete it. The Service adds no encryption or access restrictions to these exports. Check their contents and recipients. Deleting data in the app does not delete exported copies.
- The metronome, score playback and recording support practice. Devices, external audio equipment or app conditions may cause sound or display timing differences, delay or interruption. Check them in the intended environment before important performances. These explanations do not limit liability or user rights under Article 19 or applicable law.
Article 15 — Temporary Suspension
- We may suspend all or part of the Service for maintenance, updates, disasters, communications failures, security issues or other unavoidable circumstances.
- We endeavour to notify users in advance where reasonably possible, but emergencies may require action without advance notice.
Article 16 — Prevention of Misuse and Necessary Checks
- Depending on available features, we may collect and review access times, IP addresses (numbers identifying the source of communications), device identifiers and communication records to maintain stable service, prevent misuse and address infringement. Purposes and handling follow the Privacy Policy.
- For excessive access, improper circumvention of limits or other disruption, we may reasonably limit communications, introduce waiting periods, suspend functions or take other measures proportionate to the impact and need.
- Authorised staff may examine data stored on our servers as necessary to investigate faults or misuse, address infringement claims or comply with law.
Article 17 — Restrictions, Account Freezing and Data Deletion
- Considering seriousness, repetition, impact on others and urgency, we may reasonably warn, require correction, restrict features, change a Public ID, suspend or indefinitely freeze an account, cancel registration or delete scores where:
- These Terms are breached or specific circumstances reasonably indicate a risk of breach.
- Materially false registration details impair identity verification or safe provision.
- After reviewing the substance and grounds of an infringement claim, measures are reasonably necessary to protect rights.
- There is unauthorised access, impersonation, credential misuse or improper evasion of restrictions.
- There is danger to Minors, involvement with Organised Criminal Groups or another serious safety issue.
- Necessary contact for verification, safety or correction receives no response despite reasons and a reasonable response period, and continued use is inappropriate.
- An account without an active paid contract or paid entitlement has not accessed our servers for at least three consecutive years.
- Other specific circumstances reasonably make continued safe provision difficult.
- Freezing suspends use while retaining account information; it differs from voluntary account deletion. Login and re-registration using frozen details are restricted. Do not evade a suspension through another account without our permission. Login is required again after unfreezing.
- Separate deletion of Score Data can cover server scores, local member scores, performance lists and related settings belonging to the account. It operates per account and may extend beyond the score in question. We consider this impact and use complete deletion only when reasonably necessary for serious or repeated violations, safety or similar grounds.
- We may act without advance notice, explanation or opportunity to correct and may withhold detailed reasons, criteria or investigation information, except where law requires notice, explanation or disclosure. Unfreezing does not restore deleted data.
- You may request reconsideration through Article 28. We review as necessary but may withhold details that could harm rights, safety, investigations or prevention of misuse.
- Deletion under this Article removes the account's Score Data and related management information from our servers and the Service. Legally necessary retained information is handled under the Privacy Policy. Article 18 governs local scores following voluntary account deletion.
Article 18 — Stopping, Resuming and Deleting Your Account
- Registered Users may stop, resume or delete their accounts through our prescribed procedures. Check the scope and outcome displayed for each action.
- Deletion completes through our processing after acceptance of an identity-verified request; completion may take time. Authentication on all logged-in devices is invalidated when the request is accepted.
- We delete stored registration details, email addresses, credentials and server member scores, subject to paragraph 4. Account deletion does not forcibly and permanently delete scores already on your device. Paragraphs 5–8 govern retention, trash and later use. Member performance lists and account-related settings are subject to deletion.
- We retain identifiers, deletion status and request/completion records only as necessary to prevent reassignment of identifiers and Public IDs, verify deletion, prevent misuse, comply with law and address disputes. We periodically review necessity and delete unnecessary information.
- When a device learns the account was deleted, locally stored scores become scores used without registration. Including scores previously used without registration, the most recently updated scores up to the unregistered limit in Schedule 1 remain in the list; others move to local trash. Existing trash remains. This reorganisation or excess capacity does not automatically permanently delete scores.
- While the combined size of listed scores and local trash exceeds the unregistered capacity in Schedule 1, listed scores remain viewable. Adding, duplicating, restoring or moving scores to trash is restricted; you must permanently delete unwanted trash to reduce usage. Exceptionally, if the list count is within its limit and trash is empty, one score may be moved to trash. If excess capacity remains after permanently deleting it, the next score may be moved under the same conditions once trash is empty. Once total storage is within the limit, normal moves to trash resume and restoration is allowed within the list count limit. Adding and duplicating require both resulting count and combined size to remain within limits.
- The requesting device reorganises when acceptance is confirmed; other devices do so when they learn of deletion. Offline devices may learn later. The scores retained in each list depend on local availability and update order.
- Only scores whose originals are already stored on that device are retained. Cloud-only scores not downloaded to it are not retained and cannot be retrieved after server deletion completes. The deletion screen displays these effects and current count and storage limits.
- Even scores remaining on a device after account deletion may no longer allow editing or export requiring login or creator verification. A deleted creator account's records do not automatically transfer to a new account. Before deleting your account, export and separately store needed data within your rights and applicable usage conditions.
Article 19 — Warranties and Liability
- We provide score management, viewing and related functions in accordance with the displayed service description and applicable law. We give no additional guarantee of compatibility with every device, operating system or file beyond the stated supported environment, perfect reproduction in display or conversion, entirely uninterrupted or error-free operation, permanent data retention or restoration in every circumstance. This does not negate specific promises we make, our duty to provide services with reasonable care, or non-excludable legal guarantees of quality, fitness for purpose or otherwise.
- We do not pre-screen user-imported, stored or exported scores for content or rights and do not guarantee their accuracy, completeness or legality. Article 8 governs checks and responses for scores we provide; Article 11 governs infringement reports.
- Device failure or loss, user actions, external service failures and disasters may prevent use. We are not liable for loss from causes for which we have no legal responsibility. However, involvement of a user action or external service failure does not by itself exclude liability for our own breach of duty or conduct of contractors or others for which we are legally responsible.
- The restrictions on types and amounts of damages in the next paragraph do not apply to intentional misconduct or gross negligence by us, our representatives or persons assisting performance, death or personal injury, or liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Non-excludable compensation and other rights, including those under the Australian Consumer Law and New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act, are governed by applicable law and the regional supplement.
- Only where the preceding paragraph does not apply and we are ordinarily negligent (negligence that is not gross negligence), this paragraph applies to the extent permitted by law. In those cases, liability is limited to actual direct and ordinary loss, excluding loss arising from special circumstances, indirect loss (loss arising as a further consequence of a failure) and lost profits (profits that would otherwise have been earned). Aggregate compensation to the same User for the same cause or a closely related series of causes is capped at JPY 10,000. This is not a cap on every claim. A restriction does not apply where the preceding paragraph applies or where it is prohibited, including under rules on unfair contract terms.
- Please verify rights, retain independent Source Materials and backups, check displays before events, prepare alternatives and manage external sharing destinations. Steps reasonably available to avoid or reduce loss and the extent to which your circumstances contributed to its occurrence or increase are considered under applicable law. A failure to retain Source Materials, check operation or prepare alternatives does not by itself release us from all liability.
- Where other provisions of these Terms or the Cloud Terms of Use disclaim warranties or exclude or limit liability, the rights protected by paragraph 4 and the regional supplement take priority for our damages liability. Paragraph 5 applies only when its stated conditions are met.
- Whether compensation is due, and its amount, for lost, corrupted or inaccessible data or an event cancellation or delay is determined under applicable law, considering our obligations, the connection between the incident and loss, reasonable foreseeability, actual loss and the circumstances in paragraph 6. Venue fees, performance fees, operating costs, ticket refunds, third-party compensation and other claimed costs are neither fully compensable nor categorically excluded merely because of their label. Whether paragraphs 4 and 5 apply also depends on the nature of the loss and applicable law.
Article 20 — Your Liability
- If your intentional or negligent breach, infringement or other unlawful act causes us loss, you are liable only as permitted by law and for losses reasonably attributable to that act.
- If a third party makes a related claim against us, you must reasonably cooperate in providing information and materials needed to establish facts.
- Where you have legal liability, compensation includes necessary and reasonable investigation, response and legal fees attributable to your act. A third-party claim alone does not establish your liability to compensate us or pay expenses.
- This Article applies only to the extent permitted by law.
- This Article does not impose liability merely because you make a legitimate complaint, seek a refund or compensation, complain to an authority or use court proceedings. An unsuccessful claim alone is not treated as evidence of an improper purpose or negligence.
Article 21 — Changes and Discontinuation
- For reasonable needs, we may change the Service's content, name, formats, limits or storage methods. We give advance notice of materially significant changes, their timing and required user action. Contract changes follow Article 24 and applicable law.
- For discontinuation, we give reasonable advance notice of timing and data effects. Legal, safety or other unavoidable circumstances may require shorter notice or no advance notice.
Article 22 — Notices and Contact
- We notify users through the Service, this page or their registered email address.
- General notices appear where users can ordinarily check them. Required individual notices use registered contact details or another appropriate method, with effect determined by law. Posting or sending alone does not establish legally required receipt or consent.
- Where direct explanation or notice to a Parent or Guardian is legally required, we use verified contact details or another lawful method. Display to the Minor alone does not satisfy that requirement.
- Contact us through Article 28 and keep your contact information accurate and current. Article 19 governs our liability where your circumstances make the contact unavailable.
- This Article concerns ordinary service-related notices and communications. Formal delivery of claims, court orders and other judicial documents (service of process) is governed by applicable law, treaties and court rules. This Article does not constitute an agreement that ordinary email or the contact form alone is a method of formal service, or exclude other legally permitted methods.
Article 23 — Transfer of Contractual Status
- You may not transfer contractual status, rights or obligations to a third party without our prior consent.
- On a business succession, we may lawfully transfer contractual status and information necessary to operate the Service to the successor.
Article 24 — Changes to These Terms
- We may change these Terms following the conditions and procedures of Japan's Civil Code and other applicable law, including where changes benefit users generally or are reasonable considering the agreement's purpose, necessity, appropriateness and other circumstances.
- We appropriately announce the change, revised content and effective date by the legally required time. Changes requiring individual consent apply only after obtaining that consent.
- Generally, the effective date is the date we publish the revision in the Service. Where prior notice or other legal procedures are required, the revision takes effect on the separately specified date after those procedures.
- If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you may delete your account or cancel paid features by the effective date.
Article 25 — Survival, Non-Waiver and Severability
- After account deletion, cancellation of registration or termination of the Service, Articles 3 (information handling), 7 and 8 (rights in scores and management responsibilities), 12 (ownership), the data deletion and preservation provisions of Articles 17 and 18, Articles 19 and 20, this Article and Article 27 survive to the extent their nature requires.
- Failure or delay in exercising a right is not a waiver.
- If a provision is invalid or inapplicable, the others remain effective. Applicable law governs the invalid part; we do not unilaterally determine substitute conditions.
Article 26 — App Store Conditions
- When obtaining or using the Service through App Store, Google Play or another store, follow its conditions and applicable software licence. These Terms do not unjustifiably restrict use allowed by those conditions.
- The Company provides the Service under these Terms and receives service inquiries, complaints and claims through Article 28. Article 19 governs our legal and contractual liability. Store operators' obligations depend on law and their conditions.
- For App Store distribution, the agreement is between you and the Company, not Apple. We are responsible for the Service and its content; Apple has no maintenance or support duty. If the Service fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and receive a refund of its purchase price under Apple's conditions. To the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligations; we are responsible for other warranty matters and claims. Article 19 governs our damages liability.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries entitled to enforce these Terms against you for App Store distribution. These Terms do not apply to the extent they conflict with Apple's conditions or permitted use such as Family Sharing.
Article 27 — Governing Law, Jurisdiction and Regional Rights
- Japanese law is the governing law used to interpret and apply these Terms. This does not deprive you of non-excludable consumer or other protections applicable because of your residence, the transaction, the provision of the Service or other relevant connections. Nationality, device language or store region alone does not determine applicable law.
- To the extent this agreement is legally permitted, we agree that the Tokyo District Court or Tokyo Summary Court is the exclusive court of first instance for disputes relating to the Service. This does not restrict any right under applicable law to use courts or dispute resolution bodies in your place of residence or elsewhere. The protections in the regional supplement also apply.
- Japanese is the source for drafting and revising translations. This does not limit statutory rights of users who reasonably relied on a translation we provided. Where applicable law or appropriately displayed regional conditions give another language priority or require a contract or explanation in that language, those requirements apply.
- Contacting or negotiating with us is not a prerequisite to court proceedings, complaints to authorities or other legally available procedures. These Terms do not shorten statutory claim periods or cause you to lose rights solely because you did not contact us within a specified period.
Article 28 — Company and Contact
- Company: EMMU Inc.
- Address: 3-28-21 Kasuya, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo 157-0063, Japan
- Representative Director: Masanori Sasaki
- Email: support@mail.emmu.jp
- Contact form: https://emmu.co.jp/contact
We receive inquiries about the Service or these Terms, infringement claims, reports and other ordinary communications at the email address or through the contact form above. These can also be used when you cannot log in.
For faults or compensation requests, please provide information reasonably available to you and needed for investigation, such as the date and time, feature and device used, what happened, and the loss claimed with its breakdown. Do not send passwords, full payment card numbers or other confidential information unnecessary for investigation. Inability to provide a particular document alone does not automatically disqualify a claim, and these Terms do not impose an additional burden of proof beyond applicable law. We review information and records from both sides and make further inquiries and respond as needed.
Article 22(5) governs service of judicial documents. Use of the contact form is not a requirement for formal service.
Schedule 1 — Score Count and Storage Limits
| Status | List count limit | Device storage limit | Cloud storage limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unregistered (including after account deletion) | 1000 scores | 1 GB | Unavailable |
| Registered, no active paid subscription | 1000 scores | 1 GB | No new storage |
| Active Standard plan | No count limit | 1 GB | 1 GB |
| Active Premium plan | No count limit | 5 GB | 5 GB |
Device storage includes listed scores and local trash. Storage limits apply even without a count limit. Article 18 governs excess storage after account deletion. Cloud Terms of Use govern local use and cloud retrieval after subscription expiry. Capacity uses the app's calculation: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes; 1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Regional Supplement: Australia, New Zealand and Singapore
1. Application and Priority
This supplement applies to the extent Australian, New Zealand or Singapore mandatory consumer or other laws apply to the transaction with you. Residence, the transaction, the provision of the Service and other relevant connections are assessed under the requirements of each applicable law. Nationality, device language and store region alone do not establish residence or applicable law. This supplement prevails over conflicting provisions of these Terms.
2. Australian Consumers
Non-excludable consumer guarantees and other rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply. Remedies, subject to their statutory conditions, include terminating a service contract and obtaining a refund for the unused portion for a major failure, having other failures remedied within a reasonable time, and compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss. Article 19's as-is provision, warranty disclaimers and limits on types and amounts of damages do not exclude or restrict these rights or remedies.
3. New Zealand Consumers
Non-excludable rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986 apply. Applicable guarantees, including reasonable care and skill and fitness for purpose, and remedies such as correction, cancellation or termination, refunds and compensation are governed by their statutory conditions. Article 19 and other provisions do not require consumers to waive these rights.
4. Singapore Consumers
We respect non-excludable rights under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act and other applicable law. We do not make false or misleading statements about prices, recurring charges, what is provided or termination conditions. A liability limit does not apply to the extent law prohibits it or required conditions, such as reasonableness, are not met.
5. Purchase, Cancellation, Refunds and Contact
Before purchase we display the actual selling price, currency, billing period, automatic renewal, capacity and device conditions, cancellation method and post-termination data handling. App store billing and procedures do not transfer our legal duties to the store. To seek statutory remedies, use the purchase store's procedure or our Article 28 contact point. We do not categorically reject a matter requiring our response solely because a store declined it or its own request deadline expired. Cancellation, refunds and account deletion are different procedures.
6. Language and Disputes
Japanese is the source for drafting and revision, and we provide a corresponding English version. Article 27's reference to Japanese does not limit statutory rights of consumers who reasonably relied on the English explanations we provided. Japanese law and court provisions do not prevent access to local courts, authorities or other dispute procedures recognised by applicable law.
7. Rights in Scores
Purchasing a score, using it only personally or the original composition being out of copyright does not necessarily permit every copy, digitisation, arrangement, cloud storage or export. Check the copyright law of the relevant country or region and applicable licences. This provision does not exclude your right to rely on statutory exceptions.
8. Data Loss, Event Losses and Liability Limits
The JPY 10,000 cap and exclusions of types of loss in Article 19(5) do not apply to compensation claims under non-excludable Australian or New Zealand consumer guarantees. Loss caused by a failure to meet those guarantees and reasonably foreseeable, and other compensable loss, is addressed under the statutory requirements concerning causation, amount and other matters. A refund amount is not automatically a cap on compensation.
Where Singapore's Unfair Contract Terms Act or other relevant law applies, limitations of liability for negligence or breach of contract are subject to legally required fairness, reasonableness and other conditions. This also applies to the cap and exclusions in Article 19(5); an acceptance action alone does not establish their validity.
In all three regions, instructions to retain Source Materials or prepare for events do not categorically exclude our legal duties. Equally, we do not promise compensation for loss unrelated to a cause for which we are legally responsible or for claims that do not meet other statutory requirements. Steps by users to avoid or reduce loss are considered under applicable law.
Additional Regional Terms: Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, South Korea, India, Mexico, Argentina and Chile
These additional terms apply to the extent that the laws of each region apply to transactions between the Company and the user. Applicability is determined by factors such as residence and the connection with the transaction and provision of services, and is not determined solely by nationality, display language or store region. Regions where distribution has not yet begun are included, but this does not represent that services have begun there or that compliance measures have been completed. Where laws apply to processing or activities before distribution begins, we will comply with those laws. In the event of a conflict with the common provisions, these additional terms and statutory rights that cannot be excluded take precedence.
1. Purchases, Liability and Language Common to All Regions
Before purchase, we explain the price, currency, billing cycle, automatic renewal, services provided, cancellation method and conditions for data deletion. Purchase through a store does not relieve the Company of its statutory obligations. Statutory rights to withdrawal, refunds and damages are not restricted by ordinary cancellation conditions, the JPY 10,000 liability cap, exclusions based on types of loss or provisions concerning Japanese courts. A claim is subject to causation, actual loss and other statutory requirements; claims for performance costs or data recovery costs are not automatically accepted. Japanese is the reference language for preparing and revising translations, but this does not prejudice legally required language precedence or the rights of users who reasonably rely on our translations. Displaying a translation does not mean that the laws of regions using that language apply uniformly.
2. Taiwan
In Taiwan, paid features of the Service are provided through App Store, and Apple is the seller for purchases. Requests to rescind distance transactions and for refunds must be made through Apple's procedures (such as “Report a Problem”). We provide explanations in Traditional Chinese before purchase. This does not restrict rights under the Consumer Protection Act or other laws.
3. Hong Kong
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance and other applicable laws, we do not provide misleading explanations of prices, contract terms, automatic renewal or cancellation. We respect applicable service terms under the Supply of Services (Implied Terms) Ordinance and the requirements governing limitations of liability under the Control of Exemption Clauses Ordinance and other laws. We do not represent that every transaction has an unconditional cooling-off period, and we explain the statutory or contractual remedies available in each case.
4. United States
Under applicable federal and state consumer protection and automatic-renewal requirements, we provide clear consent to recurring charges, purchase confirmations, required renewal and price-change notices, and understandable cancellation methods. These Terms do not impose new mandatory arbitration or class-action waivers. We do not exclude rights to warranties, refunds or recourse to courts or other remedies under state or other applicable laws.
5. Canada
Under federal and applicable provincial consumer protection laws, we respect rights concerning distance-contract disclosures, delivery of contract documents, withdrawal, refunds and contract changes. Where Quebec's French-language requirements apply, we present the French versions of these Terms and related documents before contracting and obtain any express choice required by law when another language is selected. Device or app language settings alone are not treated as that choice. Japanese-language precedence or jurisdiction clauses do not restrict non-excludable rights under provincial law.
6. South Korea
Under the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, etc. and other applicable laws, we respect the generally applicable seven-day right of withdrawal and other applicable rights. Restrictions on withdrawal upon commencement of digital-content supply or similar grounds apply only when prior disclosure, opportunities for trial use and other relevant statutory requirements are met. We distinguish ongoing services from separable undelivered portions and do not refuse statutory refunds solely on the basis of a store's refund policy. Required business information, Korean-language contract terms, and cancellation and consultation channels are provided before purchase.
7. India
Under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and other applicable consumer protection and e-commerce requirements, we clearly explain total prices and renewal, cancellation and refund conditions. We do not induce purchases or continued use through unfair manipulation or misleading operations. Information about grievance channels and officers required by applicable law is provided before use begins; where required, grievances are acknowledged within 48 hours and addressed with a view to resolution within one month. These provisions do not shorten or exclude separate statutory procedures or deadlines concerning personal information.
8. Mexico
Under the Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor, we clearly explain in Spanish the total price, billing cycle, charge date, automatic renewal and cancellation method. Where automatic-renewal notification duties apply, we provide notice at least five calendar days in advance and a means of cancellation without penalties. For purchases through a store, we also verify that required notices and cancellations can be carried out. We do not obstruct complaints to Profeco or other authorities, or non-excludable rights to refunds and other remedies.
9. Argentina
We respect the generally applicable ten-calendar-day right of withdrawal in distance transactions, in accordance with applicable starting dates, exceptions and disclosure requirements. Where required by law, we provide an understandable entry point for withdrawal and cancellation without imposing unnecessary registration or additional charges. We do not uniformly apply digital-content exceptions to ongoing cloud services. We preserve consumers' non-excludable rights concerning displayed prices, contract confirmation, refunds and dispute resolution.
10. Chile
Under Ley 19.496, we respect the applicable ten-day right of withdrawal for electronically concluded service contracts and the rules applicable where written confirmation has not been provided or in similar circumstances. If we rely on a permitted exclusion of the withdrawal right for services, we provide a prominent and easily accessible explanation in Spanish before the contract is concluded, and do so only where statutory requirements are met. General refund limitations in these Terms do not by themselves exclude the right of withdrawal. We do not obstruct complaints to SERNAC or other authorities.
11. Copyright and Inquiries
Ownership of an original, purchase of a score, personal-only use or expiry of a composition's copyright term does not necessarily permit digitization, arrangement, export or cloud storage in every country. Please check applicable laws and permissions, including separate rights in editions, arrangements and lyrics. This does not prohibit reliance on lawful exceptions. Claims and complaints may be submitted through the contact channel in Article 28. Prior contact is not a mandatory condition for recourse to authorities or courts where permitted by law, and is distinct from formal service of court documents.
Additional terms on age and parental or guardian verification / Additional terms for Switzerland
This section applies when the Service is provided in the relevant region and the corresponding verification procedures have been enabled. If it differs from the previous general explanations concerning minors, this section takes priority. It does not restrict rights that cannot be excluded by law.
Account registration is limited to persons who have reached the minimum age for their country or region of residence. The minimum age is 15 in Australia and 13 in New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan. In Japan, there is no age restriction on registration, and Minors use the Service with the consent of a Parent or Guardian under Article 4(2). Conditions for other regions will be explained in this paragraph and in the app before the Service begins to be offered in that region. Persons below the minimum age cannot register an account or purchase paid features that require an account, but may continue to use the Service on their device without registering an account. We determine the region using information such as usual residence and information from the applicable store, not nationality or display language alone.
In Switzerland and Taiwan, when a person aged 13 or older but under 18 registers an account, a Parent or Guardian reads the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy and confirms consent on screen before registration. In other regions, Minors who have reached the minimum age must register with the consent of a Parent or Guardian under Article 4(2).
When a Minor (a person who has not reached adulthood under the law of their region of residence) purchases paid features, a Parent or Guardian reviews the purchase conditions and confirms consent on screen before the purchase. Requests to cancel, or for a refund of, a purchase made without the consent of a Parent or Guardian must be made through the procedure of the app store where the purchase was made, in accordance with Article 6(6). Store approval for a purchase alone does not replace all parental or guardian consent required for the account's personal information.
The on-screen confirmation must be performed by the Parent or Guardian personally (Article 4(9)). Records of the confirmation are handled in accordance with the Privacy Policy. If specific doubts, a denial, withdrawal or information showing that age conditions are not met arise, we stop the relevant features and explain the correction procedure.
Users in Switzerland also retain their consumer and personal information rights under mandatory law. We do not state that ordinary online purchases in Switzerland have a uniform statutory withdrawal period. We respond according to the conditions displayed before purchase, applicable specific laws and store procedures. We do not prevent complaints or claims to local authorities or courts.
Privacy Policy
EMMU Inc. (the “Company”, “we” or “us”) handles personal information of EMMU Score (the “Service”) users under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (“APPI”) and other applicable law. Unless otherwise stated, terms in this Policy have the meanings in the Terms of Use on this page. Article 15 identifies the Company, address, representative and contact point.
Article 1 — Personal Information
Personal information includes information identifying a specific individual and personal identification codes as defined by APPI. Where applicable law in your place of residence or elsewhere separately protects email addresses, device identifiers or other information, we also handle that information in accordance with that law.
Article 2 — Information Handled
- Registration and authentication: email address, password verification information, Score registration and Public IDs, identifiers and verified email addresses supplied by Google, Apple or other login providers, login methods, and accepted terms versions and timestamps. When verifying regional or age conditions or guardian consent, necessary information may include country, region and state of residence, age or age range, whether the person is the user or guardian, guardian contact details, verification methods, results and timestamps, and records of explanations and consent. App store age or parental management systems may supply age ranges, verification methods and approval or withdrawal status. We explain the information and methods before verification. Where a Parent or Guardian confirms consent on screen, we record the date and time of confirmation, the purpose (registration or purchase), the region of residence, the wording displayed and its language, the versions of the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Cloud Terms of Use published at that time, and, for purchases, the identifier of the purchase conditions. This record does not include age, name or contact details.
- Usage and security: access times, IP addresses (numbers identifying a communication source), device identifiers, login status and per-device login information, usage and communication records for provided features, errors, anti-abuse records and inquiries. To reflect account freezing, account deletion or member score deletion on devices, we handle account status and device information identifying the account. Status checks for these purposes may continue after logout. Personal Cloud uses device identifiers generated by the operating system or application, transformed into matching values that cannot be reversed to their originals. Cloud Terms of Use Articles 4 and 10 explain device information and its purposes.
- Local score information: user-selected PDFs, images, MusicXML (a notation file format recording notes and measures), display data, titles, composer names, tags, correction settings, viewing position and settings such as remembered passwords. The app uses encryption at rest for managed score source files and management information, but viewing, import and export require readable processing and may use temporary files. We do not guarantee encryption of every device area or externally exported file.
- To provide cloud storage (storage on internet servers) and synchronisation, we may receive relevant scores and management information such as titles from your device and store them on servers we manage. We use them for storage, management, viewing and synchronisation. PDF viewing passwords and local encryption keys are not sent through these features. Before use, we explain the transmitted data, purposes, conditions for starting transmission, whether it is automatic and how to stop it, and obtain legally required consent. Changes to this handling require appropriate Policy updates, notice and consent. We also receive information you voluntarily send in inquiries. Do not include unnecessary score files, passwords or confidential information.
- Account deletion: request acceptance time, request identifier, processing status and completion time.
- Purchases and subscriptions: originating store, plan, product, term, purchase, renewal, cancellation and refund status, test-purchase classification, and matching values derived from store transaction identifiers. Transaction identifiers are stored as irreversible matching values. For App Store, we may also store an original transaction identifier encrypted for server-side subscription revalidation. Purchase information needed for store verification is processed during verification. We do not obtain or store payment card numbers.
- Advertising information: when ads are displayed, the ad delivery provider obtains, through a program built into the Service (SDK), advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS and the advertising ID on Android, only where the user has given permission), IP address, device and operating-system types and settings, app identification information, ad display and interaction status, approximate location (estimated from the IP address) and the status of consent concerning ads. The age category you answer at first launch so that we can determine how ads are handled is stored on the device and is not sent to our servers. We do not store this information on our servers.
- Score creation and editing process notes, lyrics, chord names, parts, playback and display settings, retained import information, titles, composer and arranger attribution, notes, rights and licenses, collecting societies and license numbers, creator-account identifiers, drafts and editing history. Scores saved to the library and their management information may be sent according to cloud consent and settings. Recording processes microphone audio, titles, notes, recording dates and times, durations and waveform display data on the device. Recordings, drafts not applied to the library and editing history are not automatically sent through cloud sync.
Article 3 — Purposes
- Account registration, identity checks, login, credential management and changes or deletion of registration information.
- Providing score import, storage, display, organisation, correction, export and other available functions.
- Responding to inquiries, important notices, fault investigation, quality improvement, security and prevention of misuse.
- Managing usage limits and communications for provided functions and stable operation.
- Recording acceptance of terms, checking age conditions where needed, protecting Minors, responding to infringement reports and complying with law.
- Deciding, executing, verifying and recording responses to violations, restrictions, freezing, cancellation of registration, voluntary account deletion and member score deletion.
- Creating and using non-identifying statistics and purposes incidental to the above.
- Providing region- and age-appropriate notices, necessary guardian explanations and verification, applying feature conditions, responding to withdrawal of approval and checking correct implementation. Age-verification and app store approval information is limited to these purposes and is not used to profile users for advertising or sales promotion.
- Where law requires us to identify a legal basis, each processing activity relies, as applicable, on contract performance, legal obligations, the consent of the user or a Parent or Guardian, or legitimate interests such as service security. The main bases are contract performance for providing accounts, purchases and Personal Cloud; legal obligations for records and responses required by law; the consent of the user or a Parent or Guardian for processing that requests consent; and legitimate interests for preventing misuse and safe provision. Legitimate interests means legally recognised interests such as preventing misuse and safe provision; we do not process information contrary to users' rights and interests, particularly those of Minors, where these must take priority. We give required explanations and complete additional consent or verification procedures where law requires them.
- Verifying purchases, managing subscription status and entitlements, reflecting renewals, cancellations and refunds, preventing duplicate use and other purchase misuse, and handling subscription inquiries and disputes.
- Displaying ads, managing how many times ads are displayed, measuring ad effectiveness and preventing fraudulent operations on ads. Personalised ads are displayed only in accordance with the handling for the user's region of residence and with the user's consent or permission.
- We use the information above for score creation, editing, saving, recovery, display, playback, export and operation-permission management, and for recording, listing, playback, deletion and user-selected export or sharing.
Article 4 — Local Information and Export
- Locally stored data depends on device storage, operating system management and your actions.
- We import files and photos you select. Where device permissions are required, we seek them through the operating system's permission screen or a similar process.
- Exports to external apps or services may transfer scores, titles, source filenames, management identifiers and performance lists, depending on the export. The recipient provider's terms and privacy policy govern its subsequent handling.
- Recording requires microphone permission through the OS, which can be revoked in device settings. Using only the metronome does not require microphone permission. Audio exports may include titles, notes and recording timestamps; MusicXML may include hidden lyrics, retained information, notes and editor settings. Management information in account backups may include creator-account identifiers and usage conditions. Check contents before saving or sending.
Article 5 — Changes of Purpose
We change purposes only within a reasonably related scope and conditions permitted by law, and provide required notice or publication.
Article 6 — Third Parties, Contractors and External Login
- We do not provide personal information to third parties without consent except as allowed by law.
- We may provide necessary information where legally permitted for compliance with law, protection of life, body or property, children's welfare or cooperation with authorities, including legally necessary responses to infringement claims.
- We may entrust server operations, email delivery, maintenance, fault investigation and inquiry handling to external providers to the extent necessary. We supervise appropriately through selection, contracts and checks of handling.
- If you choose Google or Apple login, authentication occurs through that provider and we receive the authentication result and necessary registration information. Its independent collection and use is governed by its own privacy policy. Independent processing by login providers is distinguished from work entrusted by us.
- For transfers to third parties abroad, we complete legally necessary consent, explanations of the country, legal system and recipient safeguards, checks of equivalent protection and other procedures. Contractors and the countries or regions where information is handled are set out in paragraph 7. For any provision other than this, we explain necessary information, such as recipients or their categories, the countries or regions where information is handled, and the transfer bases and safeguards, before collection or provision.
- Local score originals not sent to us are not stored on our servers or provided by us to third parties.
- We are a Japanese business and handle users' information in Japan. We entrust server operation, databases, score storage and email delivery to Amazon Web Services, Inc., which may handle this information in data centres in Japan and the United States. Information of users residing in countries or regions other than Japan is transferred to these countries. Through contracts with contractors and other necessary measures, we ensure that appropriate protection is provided at the transfer destinations. If contractors or processing countries change, we will update this paragraph.
- When ads are displayed, the Service sends the information in Article 2(7) to Google LLC (United States), separately from the contractors in the preceding paragraph. For personalised ads, Google handles information in accordance with its own policies. For Google's use of information, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Article 7 — Statistics
- Within published purposes, we may aggregate lawfully obtained data into statistics that cannot identify or be linked to individuals, such as sufficiently aggregated usage counts and feature usage proportions.
- We may use, publish or provide these statistics to third parties, free or for payment and without time or geographic limits, for improvement, quality management, new feature planning, usage analysis and reporting results. We do not provide individual histories, Public-ID-linked information or score originals as statistics. If small groups or other circumstances could identify someone, we change aggregation units or exclude items.
- Replacing names alone, or information readily linked with other data to identify someone, does not make it such statistics. If we use APPI's separate categories of anonymised information (processed to legal standards so that individuals cannot be identified and originals cannot be restored) or pseudonymised information (not identifying without linkage to other data), we first establish legally compliant handling separately. This Article does not authorise unrestricted third-party provision of those categories.
- This Article does not waive notice, consent or other requirements for collecting or using personal or protected identifying information. Age, guardian and store approval information is not used for statistics or analysis beyond necessary verification, safe age-appropriate operation and compliance. It does not authorise redistribution, sale or generative AI training using score originals.
- We do not provide recorded audio, score or lyric content, drafts, editing history or personal notes as-is as statistical information. This provision does not authorize selling them or using them for generative-AI training.
Article 8 — Security and Breaches
- We implement necessary measures including access control, protection in transit and at rest, credential management and anti-abuse monitoring. We apply protective processing where needed to fault reports containing identifiable information.
- Authorised staff may review server data as necessary for fault or abuse investigations, infringement reports and legal compliance. This does not mean viewing or monitoring local scores not sent to us.
- For leakage, loss, damage or similar incidents, we act to contain harm, investigate facts and prevent recurrence, and make legally required reports to authorities and notifications to affected people.
- App-managed score files and management information, editor drafts and history are encrypted at rest. Recordings are stored in an area protected by the OS from other apps, without the Service's own file encryption. We do not remotely view or monitor recordings, drafts or history not sent to us.
Article 9 — Access and Correction Requests
- Article 15 receives requests by individuals or authorised representatives for purposes of use, access, correction, additions, deletion or other statutory rights relating to retained personal data, and disclosure of legally covered third-party provision records. We verify identity and authority as needed and respond according to law, using reasonable verification appropriate to the information held and request. We may refuse all or part where identity or authority cannot be verified or law otherwise allows. If refusing or not holding the data, we notify the requester and provide legally required explanations.
- Responses use email or writing. For access to retained personal data and third-party provision records, we provide an emailed electronic file or written copy as requested. We determine the electronic format. If the requested method is difficult for a legally permitted reason, such as excessive cost, we notify you and provide a written copy.
- Statutory grounds may limit disclosure. We notify refusal, absence of data or similar outcomes without delay as required and endeavour to explain the reasons.
- Before a request, our contact guidance makes available request methods, necessary identity and authority checks, and any lawful reasonable fee and payment method for notification of purposes or disclosure. We do not charge fees prohibited by law.
Article 10 — Stopping Use, Erasure and Withdrawal of Consent
- Article 15 receives requests to stop use, erase information or stop third-party provision. We investigate and verify identity or authority as needed and respond according to applicable law.
- For consent-based processing, you or an authorised Parent or Guardian may withdraw consent through the explained settings or procedures or Article 15. Withdrawal does not invalidate earlier lawful processing. We explain which functions become unavailable if necessary information can no longer be processed.
- Where applicable law grants them, you may object, restrict processing, receive data in a usable format for transfer to another service, or request human review of significant decisions made solely by automated processing. The relevant law determines covered data, conditions, procedures and response times.
- You may complain to competent privacy authorities under applicable law.
- We may retain necessary information for compliance, prevention of misuse or disputes only for necessary periods and within legal limits.
Article 11 — Retention, Account Deletion and Data Deletion
- Local data may be lost through your deletion, app removal or device management. Trash and backup retention follow the displayed conditions.
- We retain registration, authentication and usage information for necessary service, legal, anti-abuse, safety and dispute purposes, assess each information type and delete it when unnecessary. Expired credentials undergo prescribed cleanup. Schedule 2 sets retention periods and start points for Personal Cloud subscription and operational records.
- Account deletion removes email addresses, credentials and server member scores. We retain necessary management identifiers, Public IDs, deletion status and request/completion records to prevent identifier reassignment and verify deletion. Freezing differs from deletion and may retain registration and authentication information to prevent reuse and manage the measure.
- Account deletion removes that account's server scores, performance lists and settings. Locally stored scores are not forcibly and permanently deleted for that reason; they transition to unregistered use under Terms Article 18 and excess counts move to local trash. Other devices reorganise when they learn of deletion. Terms Article 18 and Schedule 1 govern limits and excess capacity. Deletion for violations follows Terms Article 17, separately from voluntary account deletion. Information needed for compliance, anti-abuse or disputes is retained only as legally permitted and necessary.
- Initial-use consent is recorded locally; registration consent is linked to the account. Account-linked consent records are normally deleted on account deletion, but items necessary for legal duties, proof of valid consent or disputes may be separately retained for the necessary period. Incomplete verification requests, supporting materials and results are deleted once their purpose is fulfilled or they are no longer needed, except legally necessary preservation.
- Recordings remain on the device separately from accounts and scores and are not deleted by logout, account deletion or score deletion. Delete them from the recording list or, where appropriate, delete the app's device data. Exported copies are outside account deletion and in-app deletion; manage and delete them according to their storage location and provider's conditions.
Article 12 — Minors' Information
- “Minor” has the meaning in Terms Article 1, and Terms Article 4 governs use. Consent to the usage contract and consent or verification for personal information are separate and depend on law and features used.
- Unless a legal exception applies, we complete legally required direct explanations, consent and verification with Parents or Guardians before collecting the relevant information. We clearly explain applicable ages, information, purposes, recipients, retention, consent methods and withdrawal or deletion procedures to the Minor and guardian.
- If the Minor cannot understand conditions or information handling, the Parent or Guardian should review and configure them. Use through a guardian's account still receives necessary protection according to the actual collection of the Minor's information.
- If required consent or verification is missing, we consider the Minor's interests and applicable law when stopping collection or use, checking with the guardian and deleting unnecessary data. Age verification or withdrawal alone does not lead to immediate wholesale deletion of unrelated scores. If law requires stopping the entire Service, we comply to that extent.
- Guardian requests for access, correction, deletion or withdrawal are received through Article 15 or the relevant contact. We verify authority as needed and respect rights also held by the Minor. A claim of guardianship alone does not justify disclosure to an unrelated person.
- We limit processing to what the features need and explain it according to age and understanding. We do not show ads based on behaviour (personalised ads) to users known to be under 18. Before new features or processing, we assess impacts, necessity, law and store conditions and give required explanations and obtain consent.
- Other safety policies are set out in the Child Safety Policy.
Article 13 — Cookies, Advertising and External Services
- Related web pages may use cookies (small pieces of information stored in the browser) for maintaining login, preventing unauthorised actions and other necessary purposes. Disabling them may prevent some functions.
- The Service's app may display ads when used free of charge. Ads are displayed as follows according to the region of residence. In Switzerland and Australia, only non-personalised ads are displayed. In other regions, ads tailored to the user's interests are displayed if the user consents or grants permission, and non-personalised ads are displayed if the user does not. Even for non-personalised ads, some of the information in Article 2(7) is used to manage how many times ads are displayed and to prevent fraud.
- Users can change their consent concerning ads at any time in the app's settings. In the device settings, users can also reset their advertising identifier and withdraw permission for tracking.
- In regions where personalised ads are displayed, we confirm the age category at first launch. Personalised ads are not displayed to users whose confirmed age category, or whose age known to us, is under 18. No answer is preselected for the age category question.
- External login providers and linked sites govern their own handling.

Article 14 — Policy Changes
We review this Policy when necessary and appropriately announce changes and effective dates, obtaining separate consent where law requires. The public page displays the latest text and revision date.

Schedule 2 — Personal Cloud Subscription and Operational Record Retention
| Information | Retention and starting point |
|---|---|
| Active subscription information | While active, for the period necessary to verify or update entitlements. |
| Minimal history of ended subscriptions or plans | Five years from the end of that subscription or plan: member management identifier, store, plan/product, period, termination type, test-purchase classification and matching values of transaction identifiers. Starting another subscription does not extend the starting point for previous history. |
| Encrypted transaction identifier for revalidation | As needed for store matching and renewal checks; not automatically retained as part of the ended-subscription history above. |
| Registered devices and registration/deregistration history | While registered, as needed to provide functions. Deregistered device information: up to 15 months from deregistration. Each operation history: up to 15 months from that operation. |
| Purchase verification and subscription change operational records | Up to 15 months from recording the verification or change, distinct from minimal ended-subscription history. |
| Inquiries, reports and investigation consent records | Inquiries: up to 15 months from submission. Reports and investigation cases: up to 15 months from closure. While ongoing, as needed to handle the matter. |
| Staff access records | Up to 15 months from access. |
| Legally required books, invoices and similar records | The statutory period for that record type. This does not justify keeping score files or all operational records for the same period. |
| Records of age and Parent or Guardian verification | While the account or contract subject to verification remains valid, and for five years after it ends. Limited to what is necessary to handle cancellations, refunds and disputes. |
Where preservation is required by law or a specific dispute, we retain the necessary information until that need ends. Expired information is subject to periodic deletion. Disaster-recovery backups may retain deleted information for a limited period. Cloud Terms of Use Article 5 governs server score retention and deletion. The status of consent concerning ads and the age category given at first launch are stored on the device and are not stored on our servers.
Regional Privacy Supplement: Australia, New Zealand and Singapore
1. Responsibility and Scope
EMMU Inc. is responsible for the personal information it handles in the Service. The Personal Information Protection Manager in Article 15 is the contact for Privacy Officer or Data Protection Officer responsibilities required by applicable law. That Article's form receives privacy requests and complaints. We comply with each region's privacy law to the extent it applies to us or the processing concerned. This Policy does not indicate a voluntary opt-in to a law from which we are exempt.
2. Language and Inquiries
We use the display language sent by the app to select screen, email and notification wording. During authenticated use we may store the notification language with your account. With multiple devices, we use the language last received from an authenticated device interaction. Inquiries record their submission language to help respond in an appropriate language. We do not automatically rewrite your inquiry text or score contents according to the display language.
3. Collection Notices and Overseas Handling
At relevant collection points we explain the information, purposes, necessity, main recipients and effects of not providing it. For information obtained from Google or Apple login or other sources besides you, we also provide required notices, including indirect-collection notices under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. Exceptions, such as where you already know the required matters, apply only when their legal conditions are met.
Before overseas provision or outsourcing we check recipients' roles, information types, processing countries, safeguards and transfer bases. Transfers covered by Singapore law receive protection comparable to its Personal Data Protection Act unless a prescribed exception applies. For New Zealand, we distinguish a provider storing or processing solely for us from a recipient also using information for its own purposes. Where Australian overseas disclosure duties apply, we meet their conditions. Specific contractors and processing countries are set out in Article 6(7).
In Australia, only non-personalised ads are displayed. In Singapore, consent to the collection of information for personalised ads is obtained based on the explanation displayed.
4. Access, Correction, Withdrawal and Complaints
We receive requests for access to your information, correction, withdrawal and other rights under applicable law. Identity checks require only necessary information. We provide required explanations when a request cannot be met, needs more time or involves lawful charges. We explain the effect of withdrawal on functions that cannot continue. Withdrawal does not automatically end processing supported by a legal retention duty or other lawful basis.
Contacting us does not prevent complaints under applicable law to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner or Singapore's Personal Data Protection Commission.
5. Security and Breaches
We use safeguards appropriate to confidentiality and user impact, including contractor management, access restrictions and deletion after retention ends. For breaches we investigate circumstances and impact and act to contain and remedy harm. Where legal notification conditions are met, we notify authorities and affected people within the applicable deadlines and by the required methods.
Additional Regional Information: Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, South Korea, India, Mexico, Argentina and Chile
The responsible business and personal information contact is EMMU Inc., specified in Article 15. The following applies according to the scope and effective dates of each law. We reasonably verify the identity of persons exercising rights and their representatives, and respond within statutory deadlines. Where we refuse or extend a request, we explain the required reasons and appeal methods. We do not condition the exercise of rights on fees or disadvantages that are not permitted by law. Rights are not determined solely by nationality or display language.
1. Taiwan and Hong Kong
Where Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act applies, we explain at collection the business, purposes, types of information, period, regions, recipients and methods of use, the individual's rights and the consequences of not providing information. We accept requests for access, copies, correction, cessation of collection, processing or use, and deletion in accordance with the relevant statutory requirements. Where Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance applies, we accept requests for access and correction and comply with requirements concerning accuracy, retention, security and use for other purposes. We also manage security and retention at overseas service providers through contracts and other measures, and do not obstruct complaints to the PCPD or other authorities.
2. United States
Where a state's comprehensive privacy law applies, we accept requests for access, correction, deletion, provision of data, cessation of specified processing, requests through authorized agents, and appeals against refusals, within the scope of that law. Categories of information, sources, purposes, recipients and retention periods are explained in the provisions and appendix to this Policy. We do not sell personal information from this Service. We do not share information about users in the United States for advertising based on behavior across other companies' services. Before we begin such sharing, we will establish required prior notices, opt-out methods and responses to signals, protections for minors and other required measures. We do not infer that statutory applicability thresholds are met solely from the display language.
3. Canada
Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial laws, we obtain consent based on understandable explanations, limit purposes of use, implement security measures, and provide access, correction and complaint handling. We remain accountable for processing outside Canada and require comparable protection from service providers through contracts and other measures. Where Quebec law applies, we undertake required privacy impact assessments and agreements before transfers outside Quebec, and respect applicable rights to information, provision of data and other rights. We do not obstruct complaints to local authorities.
4. South Korea
Under the Personal Information Protection Act, we distinguish disclosure to third parties from outsourced processing. Before an overseas transfer, we provide, through required explanatory screens or other appropriate means, the information concerned, destination country, timing and method, recipient and contact details, purposes, retention and use periods, how to refuse and the consequences, and the lawful basis for the transfer. We obtain separate consent where required. We respond to requests for access, correction, deletion and suspension of processing, and appoint and publish contact details for a domestic representative where legally required. Where statutory breach notification or reporting is required, we comply with the applicable deadlines, including 72-hour deadlines where relevant.
5. India
We address the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and related rules according to their phased commencement dates and the obligations concerned. Where consent is requested, we provide a separate, understandable explanation of the information collected and purposes, and a means to withdraw consent. To the extent in force and applicable, we provide access to information, correction and erasure, grievance handling, and nomination of a person to exercise rights, among other rights. Grievance response deadlines, prerequisites to complaints to authorities and restrictions on overseas transfers follow the requirements of laws in force. This does not mean that obligations not yet in force have already taken full effect.
6. Mexico
Under the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties, we explain necessary and optional purposes, disclosures and transfers, consent and its withdrawal. Requests for access, rectification, cancellation or deletion, opposition (known as ARCO rights), and limitations on use or disclosure are accepted through Article 15. Decisions are generally notified within 20 business days, and accepted requests are generally implemented within 15 business days after that notice; where a legally permitted extension is necessary, we explain the reasons. Refusal of consent to an optional purpose alone does not result in refusal of a service unrelated to that purpose.
7. Argentina
Under Ley 25.326, we generally respond to access requests within ten calendar days and to requests for correction, updating or deletion within five business days. Before overseas transfers, we check the destination's level of protection, appropriate contracts or other permitted grounds. We complete registration or other procedures where required for foreign businesses. We do not obstruct complaints to the supervisory authority, the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública (AAIP).
8. Chile
For Ley 19.628 and Ley 21.719, which takes effect on December 1, 2026, we comply with obligations according to effective dates and scope. We respect rights to access, correction, deletion, objection, provision of data in an accessible format and other recognized rights, as well as requirements concerning overseas transfers, security and dealings with authorities. Requests made before the new law takes effect are also handled without obstructing rights applicable at that time.
9. Display Language, Retention and Deletion
The display language is used to select the language of legal documents, emails and notices, and we may store the notification language in member information. We record the language used when an inquiry is sent. This does not automatically translate submitted inquiries or scores. Account deletion and stopping a store's automatic renewal are separate procedures. Legally required retention, preservation for disputes and recovery backups are distinguished within the scope of Article 11 and the appendix; information is deleted when no longer necessary. Where local law requires shorter retention or additional explanations, those requirements take precedence.
Additional information on age and parental or guardian verification data and Switzerland
Only for regions and features where necessary, we process self-declared age categories, age ranges provided by stores, the parent's or guardian's name, role, contact details and selected language, scope of approval, document versions, and records of verification, notices and withdrawal, to assess eligibility and manage consent. We do not universally require a date of birth or submission of identity documents. During anonymous preliminary verification, we do not first collect the user's email address or password.
Store responses concerning adults are used only while necessary for verification. We do not retain the age range, raw response, detailed verification method or unnecessary reference numbers. Instead, we keep minimal eligibility information, such as whether verification was completed, the user, device and region concerned, the version of the requirements, verification time and verification route. A valid result for the same user and device can also be reused without connectivity. If later information indicates that requirements are not met, that blocking result takes priority. Age categories needed for ongoing protection of minors in California and Colorado, United States, are handled separately with limited purposes and access rights.
As a rule, a parent's or guardian's verification link is valid for up to 24 hours, a pre-registration verification request for 7 days, the conditions covered by purchase approval for 24 hours, and permission immediately before purchase for 15 minutes. Contact details and similar information from preliminary verification that is declined, unrecognized or expired are deleted within 24 hours, except as needed to handle the matter. Necessary records of approval are kept for as long as needed for the relevant use, contract and exercise of rights, and information that is no longer necessary is deleted. In India, from 13 May 2027, we may retain personal data, processing records and similar information whose retention is required by applicable law for 1 year from the relevant starting point. This does not uniformly extend ordinary deletion periods for all data; information subject to statutory retention is separated from ordinary use.
For use from Switzerland as well, the controller, purposes, information collected, service providers, countries receiving international transfers and safeguards, retention periods and contact point for exercising rights follow the explanations in this Policy. We respect applicable rights such as access, correction and deletion. If actual service providers or international transfer destinations change, we update the necessary explanations.
In Switzerland, only non-personalised ads are displayed. Storage of information on the device and reading of information from it are explained in Article 13, and users can refuse them in the app's settings.
Records made when a Parent or Guardian confirms consent on screen (Article 2(1)) are retained for the period set out in Schedule 2.
Child Safety Policy
This Policy, as Specific Rules under the EMMU Score Terms of Use, sets out policies on safe use, protection of information and responses to problems so that children may use scores safely under the management of Parents or Guardians. The handling of personal information is also governed by the Privacy Policy.
Article 1 — Scope and Basic Policy
- This Policy protects persons under 18. Where applicable law requires protection of a broader group, those persons are also included. These persons are referred to below as “Protected Persons”. The conditions requiring consent or verification by Parents or Guardians for the usage agreement and the collection and use of personal information follow applicable law, the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy.
- The Service is an app that assists with importing, organising and viewing scores and related functions. Protected Persons may use it subject to the conditions in the Terms of Use and the necessary consent and management of Parents or Guardians.
- We take account of Protected Persons' ages, understanding and interests, limit the handling of information to what is necessary, and provide understandable explanations and measures needed for safety. We prohibit child sexual exploitation and abuse and other conduct threatening Protected Persons' safety.
Article 2 — Involvement of Parents or Guardians and Conditions of Use
- Minors as defined in the Terms of Use must have a Parent or Guardian review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and obtain necessary consent before using the Service. If a Protected Person has difficulty understanding the conditions or completing necessary procedures, a Parent or Guardian must perform initial setup, review the terms, complete necessary registration and manage use. “Parents or Guardians” has the meaning in Article 1 of the Terms of Use.
- Depending on the Protected Person's region of residence, age and features used, we may verify age, explain matters to Parents or Guardians, obtain consent or perform other verification. Required conditions and procedures are explained before use begins or before the relevant feature or handling of information begins. Where additional consent or verification is needed for collection and use of personal information, follow the Privacy Policy and the relevant explanation.
- If necessary consent or verification cannot be obtained, or consent is withdrawn, we take account of the Protected Person's interests and applicable law when stopping the collection or use of affected information or features, performing necessary verification and deleting unnecessary information.
- According to the Protected Person's age and understanding, Parents or Guardians must provide necessary management and assistance with devices and accounts, rights to use imported scores, external export destinations, retention of Source Materials and important actions such as registration changes or deletion. The extent of their responsibility follows applicable law and the Terms of Use.
Article 3 — Safe Use of Scores and Protection of Information
- When exporting Score Data or backup files outside the app, check the destination, information included and conditions for using the scores.
- Do not discard or delete Source Materials defined in the Terms of Use because they have been imported into the app; keep them separately to the extent lawful. Observe return and deletion conditions for borrowed scores and similar materials. When using the app at a recital or similar event, Parents or Guardians should also check display, page turning, device charge and other matters as needed, and prepare lawfully usable alternatives.
- Do not unnecessarily include a Protected Person's real name, address, school, contact details or similar information in Public IDs, score titles or inquiries. If we collect information about a Protected Person, we explain the necessary matters and handle it under the Privacy Policy.
- When we provide scores, we make necessary checks of their contents and rights and explain usage conditions. Before introducing interaction, public sharing or similar features, we assess their impact on Protected Persons and provide necessary safety measures, explanations and consent procedures.
- The Service does not deliver ads directed at children. Personalised ads are not displayed to Protected Persons known to be under 18. Through the ad delivery provider's settings, we prevent ads in inappropriate categories, such as adult content, gambling and dating, from being displayed. If you find an inappropriate ad, please let us know through the contact channel in Article 6.
- Recordings may include surrounding voices or lesson content; check necessary rights, consents and conditions with a guardian. Avoid unnecessary real names, schools, addresses or contact details in titles, creator names, lyrics or notes. Exported files may include information hidden on screen. Guardians should review rights, file contents and recipients for scores and recordings as needed.
Article 4 — Prohibited Conduct
To protect Protected Persons' safety, the following conduct is prohibited for all users in addition to the prohibitions in the Terms of Use.
- Unlawfully creating, importing, obtaining, storing, transmitting, sharing, soliciting or requesting images, videos or other information depicting child sexual exploitation or abuse or sexual exploitation or abuse of other Protected Persons.
- Sexual solicitation of Protected Persons; building relationships of trust and manipulating them for sexual exploitation or abuse; impersonation or inducement through money or other benefits for those purposes.
- Threats, harassment, discrimination, bullying, unlawful collection or disclosure of personal information, or other infringement of Protected Persons' rights or safety.
- Using the Service to assist or encourage the above conduct, or directing persons to external services for those purposes.
Article 5 — Reports, Consultation and Our Response
- Safety concerns involving Protected Persons and the Service are accepted through the contact channel in Article 6. Identify the matter as, for example, “EMMU Score — safety concern”, and provide the date and time, a summary and relevant Public IDs to the extent possible. A Protected Person, Parent or Guardian or any other person aware of the issue may report it or seek advice.
- Do not make new copies of, retain or redistribute unlawful images for the purpose of a report, or send unnecessary personal information. Where there is imminent danger to life or physical safety, contact the police or another emergency service in your region. Our contact channel is not an emergency reporting service guaranteeing constant monitoring or an immediate response.
- We review identified issues to the extent needed according to their risk and urgency and, under the Terms of Use and applicable law, take necessary measures including account restrictions, freezing or cancellation of registration, preservation or deletion of related information, and contact with relevant authorities. Except where law requires otherwise, measures may be taken without advance notice. We may also withhold details of reasons, decision criteria and investigations unless disclosure is legally required.
- We comply with applicable laws concerning Protected Persons' safety, make legally required reports and cooperate with relevant authorities. We do not obstruct legitimate reports or consultation, and do not treat a good-faith reporter as a violator merely because the reported matter cannot ultimately be substantiated.
- Measures such as account suspension, cancellation of registration and data deletion follow Article 17 of the Terms of Use. Our liability for damages follows Article 19 of the Terms of Use.
Article 6 — Preventive Measures and Contact
- To ensure Protected Persons' safety, we provide information, perform necessary verification, restrict use and take other measures according to the features provided, information handling and risks identified. This does not guarantee that we constantly verify every user's age or every Parent or Guardian's authority, or continuously monitor all Score Data.
- Requests for access to, correction or deletion of Protected Persons' information, withdrawal of consent by Parents or Guardians and other requests are accepted through the contact channel in the Privacy Policy and handled under that Policy. Where applicable law requires further explanation or verification, we provide the necessary guidance to the individual or Parent or Guardian concerned.
- The contact for this Policy is as follows.

Article 7 — Review of This Policy
We review this Policy according to the Service's features, laws and circumstances concerning children's safety. We announce changes and their effective date appropriately. Where law requires, we obtain separate consent. The public page displays the latest text and revision date.
Regional Child Safety Supplement: Australia, New Zealand and Singapore
1. Contract and Information Consent
Capacity to enter paid or other contracts and capacity to consent to personal information processing are assessed separately. An age statement, store age rating or guardian-named account alone does not complete required consent or verification. We explain necessary procedures before use or the relevant collection or transmission; affected functions may remain unavailable until completion. We do not universally demand birth dates or identity documents unnecessary for the check.
2. Children in Singapore
Under Singapore's personal data law and guidance, where collection, use or disclosure of information about a child under 13 relies on consent, we explain the purposes to a Parent or Guardian and obtain necessary consent from them. For children aged 13 or above who are unlikely to sufficiently understand the explanation and consequences, we seek guardian involvement. Reaching 13 does not by itself establish capacity to enter a paid contract alone.
3. Children in Australia and New Zealand
Considering applicable law and the child's ability to understand the explanation and consequences of choices, we explain clearly to the child or guardian and complete necessary consent and other procedures. We address Australia's children's online privacy rules according to their commencement and applicability to the Service.
4. Safety Contact and Response
Sexual exploitation or abuse, sexual grooming, storage of illegal images and other use harmful to children are prohibited whether or not public sharing is available. On receiving concerns from a guardian or third party, we review as necessary and take lawful measures such as restricting access, deleting information or contacting authorities. Viewing score contents for ordinary support follows the consent and other procedures in the Cloud Terms of Use.
Australian users may make complaints to the eSafety Commissioner (the authority responsible for online safety) under the applicable scheme and procedures. See https://www.esafety.gov.au/industry/codes/complaints. Contacting us does not prevent such a complaint.
Additional Regional Information: Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, South Korea, India, Mexico, Argentina and Chile
Capacity to enter a contract and capacity to consent to processing of personal information are assessed separately. A store age rating, device display language or an account in a parent's name alone does not constitute legally required verification. Until required explanations, consent and verification involving parents or guardians are completed, we do not collect the relevant information beyond permitted exceptions or commence use of the affected features.
1. United States
For collection subject to COPPA (the law protecting the online personal information of children under 13), we provide direct notice to parents and obtain verifiable parental consent before collection, except where statutory exceptions apply. We explain how parents may review processing and request cessation of collection or use and deletion. We do not require more information than necessary for use or retain it longer than necessary for a specific purpose. Where state law protects a broader age group, those obligations also apply.
2. South Korea
Where consent is required for the personal information of children under 14, we obtain and verify the consent of a legal representative. Information collected from the child for verification is limited to the legally permitted minimum necessary. For children aged 14 and over, this remains distinct from parental consent required for a minor's contract.
3. India
Where the DPDP Act's obligations concerning children are in force and applicable, we generally obtain verifiable parental or guardian consent for persons under 18. We comply with applicable prohibitions and restrictions on processing detrimental to children's well-being, tracking and behavioral monitoring, and advertising directed at children. Exceptions are used only when their scope and conditions are met; use for learning music scores alone is not treated as grounds for an educational exception.
4. Canada
We assess whether an individual can give meaningful consent in light of their maturity and the explanation provided. Guidance from Canada's federal privacy regulator indicates that, except in exceptional circumstances, parental or guardian consent is required for children under 13. We comply with additional protections required by applicable provincial law, including Quebec's rules on consent for children under 14.
5. Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mexico, Argentina and Chile
We explain matters to the individual or their parents or guardians and complete necessary procedures in accordance with each region's requirements concerning contractual capacity, parental authority, representation and personal information protection, and the individual's understanding and best interests. We do not uniformly apply another country's age thresholds of 13, 14 or 18. We also comply with additional protections for children and adolescents under Chile's new personal information protection law to the extent in force and applicable.
6. Safety, Requests and Restrictions on Use
We prohibit the storage of material involving child sexual exploitation or abuse and unlawful images, and restrict features, delete material and make legally required reports where necessary. When parents or guardians exercise rights, we verify their authority and rights also held by the individual. If required consent is found to be absent, we stop the relevant collection and processing and delete unnecessary information, except for legally required retention. An age declaration alone does not cause immediate bulk deletion of unrelated scores stored on the device. Inquiries are accepted through the contact channel in Article 15 of the Privacy Policy.
Additional regional information on age verification and parental or guardian procedures
We distinguish the conditions for ordinary app use, account registration and paid purchases, and follow the additional age terms in the Terms of Use. A content age rating displayed in a store alone does not establish completion of parental or guardian approval.
Persons below the minimum age for registration cannot register an account, but may continue to use the app on their device without registering an account. Where verification by a Parent or Guardian is required before registration or purchase, the Parent or Guardian reviews the explanations and relevant documents and confirms consent on screen before entry of the user's account information or the purchase procedure begins. This confirmation must be performed by the Parent or Guardian personally.
In regions where email verification by a Parent or Guardian is used, opening the email link alone does not give approval; we verify the Parent or Guardian's affirmative decision and acceptance of the confirmation notice for sending. This method is not absolute proof of a parent-child relationship. If doubts arise, we carry out an individual check.
Parents or Guardians can request review or withdrawal of approval, correction of information and similar actions through the contact point in Article 15 of the Privacy Policy. If required approval is withdrawn, we stop the relevant processing, but keep channels for inquiries, guidance on cancelling billing, and export and deletion of source data after authority has been verified.
